Illsaiim Aasthmir

Illsaiim Aasthmir is a Shadar-Kai originally employed by Halia Thornton who arrived back in Phandalin; seeking his payment, to find she had just been killed.

He partied up with The Bussy Knights to retrieve his payment and because he appreciated the unfamiliar kindness from an elf like Mike Hawk.

Born into House Aasthmir; a powerful family from Barolla in the Eira Dynasty, Illsaiim Aasthmir was privy to a lot of the city’s happenings.

As a youth he was given a top class-education and for many years after that he participated in his House’s affairs - helping his parents increase their reach and wealth. During this time, a rival family; House Wisedew, began to amas s significant power within Barolla. The two families conducted political and economic battles with each other frequently - even extending their reaches into the city’s crime networks.

In 612 Ag, Illsaiim Aasthmir was accused of the murdering Master Haithym Wisedew - only heir to the family’s fortune. A prolonged legal battle began and while he knew the evidence presented was entirely falsified, Illsaiim Aasthmir was forced to defend himself in court. The proceedings screeched to a halt after a technicality was pointed out by the council for House Wisedew.

One day, after returning from another unproductive day at the courts - Illsaiim Aasthmir came home to a gruesome scene in the foyer of his family’s manor. His entire family was viciously slain and left to rot. He was forced to flee the city to avoid the same fate.

Desperate to leave the country, he made contact with Zhentarim agents that his family had once employed. He hesitantly agreed to work for them if they could get him out of Feldon.

He was smuggled out of the Eira Dynasty via Snake’s Run which took him through the Gilford Kingdom and across the Azuran Ocean to Edon where he has been since.

Illsaiim Aasthmir was assigned numerous jobs by Zhentarim in Neverwinter. Most regularly acting as a double-agent within the court of the Alagondar Family; the reigning monarchy at the time.

Between 690 Ag and 691 Ag, Illsaiim was in a romantic relationship with Elora Alagondar but it would never have lasted due to their difference stations in life and their age difference. The heartbreak caused Illsaiim to keep more professional distance between himself and other people in future. He cherishes a signet ring he received from her during their time together. It also ignited a desire in Illsaiim to seek true freedom in the world.

When she died in 742 Ag; Illsaiim did not attend the funeral to avoid risk of questioning. However, he mysteriously received a letter the next day written in her handwriting asking him to look over her youngest grandchild; Quinton Alagondar, and enclosed the electrum ring he had given to her decades ago.

When Zhentarim and the entire city were blind sighted by The Ruining; an event which almost destroyed the city, Illsaiim Aasthmir aided Quinton Alagondar; the last living royal, with their escape from the city. Illsaiim helped Quinton Alagondar reach a Dragonborn couple referred to as the Nabal Family. Before heading their separate ways; he handed Quinton the same electrum ring that he had given Elora Alagondar many decades prior.

Following The Ruining, Illsaiim Aasthmir was instructed to keep a close eye on Dagult Neverember; the new ruler of Neverwinter, but to avoid direct contract of any type.

At some stage in 790 Ag to 793 Ag he ran into a woman named Marsha Corn and helped her get back on her feet after falling into debt from a rigged gambling game.

He continued to work adjacent to Zhentarim agents in Neverwinter before taking a contract with Halia Thornton in Phandalin before the 14 of Sapphirus, 802 Ag.

It is unclear how much of Illsaiim’s experiences in Neverwinter will help him now that the city is now in the midst of a power struggle between the criminal underworld and the monarchical loyalists.

Elora Alagondar - Forbidden Love

Elora Alagondar and Illsaiim shared a love during a period between 690 Ag and 691 Ag. They mutually decided to break it off after their circumstances proved not to be compatible or conducive to a relationship. Illsaiim cherished his time with Elora Alagondar more than anything barring maybe his time with his family.

Daelar - Acquaintance

Illsaiim has shopped at A Right to Bear Arms once or twice in the past and has briefly spoken with Daelar about happenings in the city and The Column.

Allison Starling - Contact

A Fire Genasi member of the Starling Family. She resents Dagult for what he has done to their library/records and supports Illsaiim in order to feel like she’s doing something about it. She’s able to provide him with some information, a place to stay, and regular conversation.

Rowland Cillian - Contact

A Water Genasi member of the Cillian Family. He’s the last member of their family in the city of Neverwinter and feels abandoned due how Dagult pushed them out of the city. He now works as a dealer at the casino and can regularly give information to those in need. He has in the past offered Illsaiim a place to stay and access to The Column if needed. He expects the phrase “A Ten and a Jack is the easiest way to get your money back…” before he’ll begin to converse more openly with anybody.

Oskar Kryme] - Known Criminal

Illsaiim was observing when Oskar Kryme began his revolt against Dagult in 799 Ag, before that - he hadn’t done much of note but selling specialty weapons that never lived up to their hype. Illsaiim is a bit taken aback that Oskar Kryme is the leading figure to take Dagult’s place in the power structure of the city.

Andel Yon - Sceptical-Acquaintances

Illsaiim was sceptical of Andel because of his connections with Dagult. After helping Marsha Corn, Illsaiim was a little less sceptical of the man but kept him at a distance nonetheless because of his connections to Dagult.

Marsha Corn - Acquaintance

A Human woman who sometimes shows up around the old building of Fontaine’s Fortunate Fluids to share information and/or resources. Illsaiim first met her after she just bet her life savings on a game of Blackjack and lost it all during a night gambling at Casino Cillian. Illsaiim approached her shortly before she had resolved to joining the City Watch and informed her she had been scammed by the dealer; as he saw the man pull a card from his sleeve to rig the game. The pair headed to The Column and spoke with a man named Andel Yon who offered her work but would not disclose to Illsaiim what she would be doing.
